The Rotary Club of Hailsham Brings Santa to Hailsham

The snow and icy conditions failed to stop Father Christmas visiting Hailsham during December when he travelled around various parts of the town courtesy of Hailsham Rotary Club. Some visiting dates had to be changed but he managed to visit most of the main residential areas in the town. He also visited the town centre on Saturday 12th December and Sunday 20th December

He came on his newly refurbished sleigh which was pulled by Rudolph (the red-nosed reindeer) and lit with coloured lights. Residents were able to hear him coming as he was  playing festive carols and songs through his new loud-speaker system which the Hailsham Rotary Club had supplied him with.

Areas he visited included Town Farm, South Road, Lansdowne, Horsebridge, Harebeating, Hawthylands and Gleneagles areas and the Tesco Store and he even managed to find time to visit the nearby village of Herstmonceux

He was accompanied by the members and wives of the Hailsham Rotarians and they knocked on doors and invited the children to come out of their homes to meet Santa who always had a small gift of sweets for his tiny visitors. He loved having his photograph taken and many parents had their cameras ready as he presented a super photo opportunity

This is the eighth year running that Hailsham Rotary Club has been able to secure Sants’a services and they were delighted to be able to host him again. President of the Hailsham Rotary Club, Francis, said “Once again despite the snow and icy conditions it was a great pleasure to be able to take Father Christmas around the streets of Hailsham and see the look of delight on each of the childrens faces. The total collected this year was almost £4,000 and this money will be distributed amongst worthy causes both local and national and we will give publicity to those charities chosen to benefit from the generosity of the people of Hailsham”

The Hailsham Rotary Club meets regularly at the Boship Farm Hotel, Hellingly and has 40 members who take part in many fund raising activities throughout the year.
