Rotary Awareness Day - 27th Febuary 2010

Rotary Clubs across the country are taking part in a Rotary Awareness week during the fourth week in February 2010.

Hailsham Rotary Club has teamed up with the Hailsham Guides and Brownies and will be holding a Rotary Awareness Event at the Tesco store in North Street Hailsham on Saturday 27th February 2010 between the hours of 10am and 4pm.

The objective of the day is to make the people aware of what the Rotary Club of Hailsham and the Guides in Hailsham (and their organisations generally) have been doing over recent years. This is to be done by way of display boards, posters and photographs showing Rotary in action. In addition a Rotary Shelterbox (tent and box contents) will be erected and placed on display for general examination. A DVD of how Shelterbox works will be shown throughout the day in the Shelterbox tent and members of each organisation will be on hand to answer questions.
A number of Shelterboxes were sent to Haiti following the recent earthquake and our picture shows tents being erected amongst the rubble.

During the day a raffle will be held with many prizes kindly donated by Tesco. The Hailsham Guides and Brownies will be packing shopping at some of the Tesco checkouts. The President of Hailsham Rotary Club, Francis Hodge, said “This is a great opportunity for members of the public to see what we do at first hand and ask questions about how the money that they donate to us throughout the year at various events is spent. We hope that as many people as possible with visit the displays by Rotary and the Guides and Brownies during the day” Hailsham Rotary Club meets regularly at the Boship Farm Hotel, Hellingly and its members take part in many fundraising activities throughout the year. Rotarians initiate community projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as violence, drug abuse, youth, hunger, the environment, and illiteracy.
